Overview:

"Those of Battalion Foch" - - -Since the beginning of 1944, Slovakia was in an insurrectionary state. Partisans, in well-structured units, multiply their raids. Among them, a group of French in the Battalion Foch. They were more than 200 escapees from prison camps in Hungary, and under the leadership of Captain Lannurien and some other energetic officers, gathered in the Slovak partisans, as well as a large number of former Soviet POWs. From August 1944, after the great Soviet summer offensive, it was critical for the Wehrmacht to maintain links between Poland and the front in Hungary, so German troops mounted large-scale operations against the partisans. The French company, which was in the region of Vruky, was inserted into the Slovak defense. Supported by some FT-17 tanks, recovered from the stocks of the pre-war Czechoslovak army, the French were to retake the village of Priekopa, with the help of a Slovak company and elements of the Russian battalion Suvurov.
