2024-02-04 | (D) Brian Lazewski | vs | Jeffrey Malter | | Russian win | SS strategy was to come on and hammer a hole with death stacks and flood up the hill.
This seems like a good balanced scenario with some seesaw action. I think the key for the Germans is deploying the max (4 half squads) then attempting more deployments after setup in the Rally Phase. I think with 8 half squad SS (which are not bad) to rush on the board bump stripping. Then flood the fire-groups on with the 10-2 death stack. If the Germans, on Turn 2 can rush the trenches and clear them by turn 3 it'll be a match. At the very least the Germans need a strong foothold in the trenches otherwise they'll have a near impossible time winning by T6
I think if the Russians setup in force in the trenches they'll be in trouble. I think the Russians need to setup far forward. Some of the Russian initial force was preserved and rallied back into the fight, which was a bonus. In the end time (as always) became the enemy of the attacker in this one. |

2023-05-06 | (D) Indy Lagu | vs | Chris Pavle | | Russian win | As the Russian, your PMC is tested as a seemingly
overwhelming number of armed-to-the-teeth SS
squads are coming at your five 527 squads on a hill.
Chris' SS made good progress and captured two trenches
on the German right before the cavalry arrived.
As others have said, the Germans need to get a trench on
both ends of the trench line. Otherwise, it's a tough time for
them.
A _bit_ static for the Russian, but only for three turns.
Well worth a playing.

2022-10-15 | (D) David Ramsey | vs | Daniel Takai | | Russian win | A really tough turn 1 and 2 for the Germans allowed my Russian defenders to pull back a hex or two, meaning that by the time the reinforcements arrived I still controlled two of the trench hexes on the Russian right. This meant that the Germans were challenged to take the hexes from the oncoming 458s who had climbed up the hill.
Russians had good dice, and the balance (which didn't affect the game as the SU-76s didn't fire a shot) before the Germans called it on turn 4.
Tough for the Germans if they can't get all of the trenches - or at least both flank hexes before the Russians arrive in force. |

2022-09-11 | (D) Dan Best | vs | Dave Mareske | | Russian win | German attack was able to take the trenches. Russian reinforcements were able to take back two trenches for the win. |
2022-05-07 | (A) Vic Lauterbach | vs | JM | | German (SS) win | The Germans dominated the first two turns and won the last two but struggled during the middle two. Two melees went their way in trench U4 and hex S4, and the 8-0 directed 658 w/MMG went on a ROF tear in turn 5 that cleared trench X5 and sealed the win. Thanks to the 10-2, the SS rallied when it really mattered (and they repaired both MMGs the RPh after they malf'd). The SU76 went malf/disable/recall in GTs 4-5 then took a LR PF shot. The SU85 killed the HS w/PSK before it got a shot off and broke the German stack in W5 but fell to another LR PF shot. I used all but 1 of my PF checks! Multiple sniper activations yielded 0 attacks, and high TH DRs by the SUs hurt Jim's Russians, but it was still quite close.

2021-06-09 | (D) Vilis Pavulans | vs | Gustav Lidemyr | | German (SS) win | Hard times for the russians. Not even a minor dent on the germans when they were running up the hill and all russian defenders slaughtered when reinforcements came on. The counterattack from the russian side was too spread out and careful in the beginning and soon thereafter half of them were gunned down by accurate MG fire and then a few more squads when they tried to move up the hill. Game ended russian turn 4 because of heavy losses. |

2017-12-13 | (D) Ken Rutkowski | vs | J Miller | | German (SS) win | Lost the hill before my reinforcements could enter. The reinforcements were cut down trying to cross open terrain. Even so, the game still came down to the final CC roll. |
2017-12-04 | (D) Jeff B | vs | Ed Donoghue | | Russian win | If the Germans don't get positioned on the hill to take on the horde of Russian reinforcements I don't see any way they have a chance. Hex BB3 proved to be a death trap for the Germans in our game. Russian tanks pulled their weight by causing the elimination for FTR of two HS and a leader (who also left behind a MMG and LMG, which were scooped up by a Russian squad that had rode into battle). Next turn a CH wiped out two full squads and another MMG. The Germans had taken half the hill but the remaining trenches were packed to the gills with salivating Russians so they called it a day. |

2016-01-31 | (A) Michael Dorosh | vs | Colin Emerson | | Russian win | Germans definitely need to take the bulk of the hill before the Russian turn 3 reinforcements come on. High ground has many advantages, not least of which is not fighting in Alpine Hills which really restricts lines of fire on the hill mass itself. Managed to bust into the trench line easy but had two more to take on the west of the massif before the arrival of reinforcements. Resigned after the MPh of Turn 5 with no real chance to pull it off. Tough fought battle, but may want to consider giving the German the balance. |
2016-01-31 | (D) Colin Emerson | vs | Michael Dorosh | | Russian win | Russian troops need to sit tight in concealment as the watch the approach of the German Supermen.
Super stacks easily tore apart the Russian defenses of 5 squads. Alpine Hills really make this a challenge, leads to lots of point blank fire situations.
I felt very overwhelmed during the first 3 turns, being steam rolled by the Germans. 2 concealed squads snuck over and managed to occupy Lvl 3 VP hexes.
Reinforcements rolled on and the tide turned drastically. I basically mobbed the last 2 VP hexes and laid residual everywhere.
Germans should rush and eliminate all Russian defenders before Russian reinforcements arrive. Take over the defenses and destroy the Russians as the approach.
German morale of 8 and the short range of the Russian infantry is a challenge |
2015-05-15 | (A) X von Marwitz | vs | Martin Mayers | | German (SS) win | I had the Germans in this one. Nothing really subtle for the Germans here. GET UP THE HILL FAST! Basically, my take was that the Germans need to be lodged in the trench system when the Russian reinforcements enter. My opponent set up his Russian initial force mainly directly west of the level 3 hills in Foxholes on level 2. Thus, the Germans would have to move ADJACENT and take Point Blank Fire to get at them. I moved aggressivley doing just that during German turn 1 hoping to have some unbroken and upinned squads in place to put point blank Advancing Fire on the Russians. Unfortunately, 4 Germans squads and the 10-2 broke. But the rest was able to put some pressure on the Russians in his turn 1 and to make retreats difficult. The broken Germans came back quickly and after some units drew DFF, the 10-2 and three squads with SW rounded the southern level 3 hill hex to get into the Russian back. This stack was attacked by a final fire shot, 1 squad killed and the 10-2 went berserk with the remaining 2 squads charging its attackers and getting a foothold in the trenchline. From then on, the Germans pushed the Russians out of the trenches quickly only taking minor losses and the Russians having only one 527 in the last trench of 58U4 remaining wich got subseqently engaged in CC and 2.5 broken squads and the wounded leader pushed back to 58V0. So basically, the Germans were ready in force in the trenches to await the Russian reinforcements in Russian turn 3. The Russians moved cautiously in their turn 3 and took only medium losses. Early during Prep Fire of German turn 4, 10-2 King Kong made his presence felt along with a low roll sending 3 Russian squads to their doom. Now, things were not looking good for the Russian who still had to cover open ground up-hill, so he conceded. All in all, this scenario is pro German I think. The German must not be timid and not lose time to capture the trenches early. If he manages that, then things are hard on the Russians. |

2012-11-24 | (D) Richard Carter | vs | Steve Cummings | | Russian win | The Germans tried to outflank my defense moving around to the north. I had my initial units far up front. Given the pine woods and gullies though I was able to shift enough guys over to bog him down a bit on the northern side of the hill. I then overwhelmed one of his stacks that did manage to sneak around the East side of the hill and reinforce the eastern level 3 hexes. I was helped by some lucky rolls w/ my tanks though to wipe out a stack of units in one of the trenches. It was a quick and bloody fight. |
2012-03-08 | (D) Simon Staniforth | vs | | | German (SS) win | |
2011-04-15 | (D) Bob Callen | vs | Rodney Callen | | Russian win | Germans played a solid game, Russians had brutal dice on one turn, getting a rate LMG shot that smoked a stack, then another low roll that generated a sniper off the MC that killed the flanking stack with the Panzerschreck on the other side of the board. This one plays a lot like a night scenario with the alpine hills, fairly easy to defend and fall back with a reverse slope defense. Once the reinforcements came on, Germans couldn't hold the hill after taking the early casualties. |
2011-03-03 | (A) Kermit Mullins | vs | Scott Waites | | German (SS) win | Germans seize hill by Turn 3-- 9-1 slain by Soviet Sniper and reserves on the board. Next three turns should be a blast. Germans carry the hill on turn 4 and turn back the Soviet attacks to retake. |
2011-01-01 | (D) Steve Bowen | vs | GC | | Russian win | Russian Assault Gun ran off huge ROF run with two critical hits and tore up the German defenses. Otherwise the German would have won since Russian mangled the uphill attack. Lucky dice saved the Reds. |

2009-05-05 | (A) Ian Willey | vs | ? | | Russian win | Fun game but the alpine hills and pine trees took some getting used to. This could have gone either way but finaly swung hard onto the russians after my large FG failed to even pin my opponents big stack. From there it got ever harder to reach the win. Never the less still lots of fun |
