Overview:

For nearly one month, heavy rain and mud had prevented further Russian offensives against the German army trapped in the Courland pocket. When a sudden heavy frost returned the roads to passable conditions in mid-December, a forbidding atmosphere of expectation swept over the defenders. In the front line near Stedini, Leutnant Biderman was part of Kampfgruppe Zoll defending a key road junction towards Liepaja. On 21 December, a massive bombardment swept over their lines, then moved to continue pounding their flanks. Bidermann caught sight of several landsers running past in panic, rasping "Panzer! Panzer!" Near company HQ, he found an anti-tank unit frantically preparing its panzerfausts for close combat. Grabbing one of the long gray-green tubes, he shouted "Come on! Let's go! They're coming!"
Attacker: Russian (Elements of 1st Baltic Front and 19th Tank Corps)
Defender: German (Kampfgruppe Zoll, Infanterie-Division 132 and Sturmgeschütz-Brigade 912, Panzer-Division12)

2024-12-22(D) Vic Lauterbach vs JM Russian winI drew the defending Germans is this Courland clash and put dummies and three HS (1 w/PSK) up front to slow down Jim's "beasts." The PSK HS torched an ISU-122 before all three HS were wiped out. I decided to concede the bridge and hold the other two VC spots which triggered a big battle for building 3aM8. A big melee in 3aQ7 tied up 3 of Jim's squads for 4 turns before my two MMC infiltrated out of it in turn 5. Every CC in this game became a melee that lasted multiple turns! The beasts and 527s killed the defenders of 3aL7, N7, N8, M7 and M8, so I had to counterattack. I got back into L7 and N7, and killed two beasts, but lost a StuG. Jim's final push retook L7 and sealed the win. This fun scenario is all-out, smash-mouth East Front action and didn't seem as pro-German as its ROAR data indicates. Killing all the beasts is critical to the defense. Jim: This attack requires balanced risk. Lose too many TDs or too many MMC and you'll fall short. Even with two ISU-152s still in action, the battle for the HQ went down to the last CCPh! Very good game. (Final CVP Germans 46, Soviets 28)
2024-07-14(D) Ron Garcia vs Darryl M. German winGerman PF's ruled the day by taking out all but one Russian tank. My infantry, on the other hand, couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. That, coupled with pulling back maybe a turn too late and not collapsing towards the Russian main thrust in the middle of the playing area, had my forces way too strung out. However, the German reinforcements got into good positions, and I was able to run enough guys back to make taking the HQ or crossroads very difficult. By mid game, the Russians were down to one tank and mired on the other side of the road splitting the village. With little chance of taking one, let alone two of the three victory condition options, we ended it.
2023-09-10(A) Indy Lagu vs Alan Hildebrandt Russian winAlan and I played a rematch from 2021...this time
I attacked.

I decided to play a bit slow but steady. The platoon
of 447 and the 7-0 was sent towards the bridge
with a T34 and ISU-122.

Alans' German defenders were getting stomped rather
badly. He sent one 548 and a JgPz IV to the bridge
and the rest came in the north.

By the time the reinforcements were all in position,
it was almost over. I had captured the 2-hex building
and had most of my force in the vicinity.

I eliminated most of Alan's initial OB for FTR (NQ is
in effect for this scenario). I think Alan felt a little shell-
shocked.

The first time we played, he was attacking and got
nowhere near the "HQ."

I think one difference is that I am a bit more aggressive
on the attack than Alan is. He seemed to fall back well
enough, but I had too much coming at him for him to
resist.

I think this one is a _bit_ tough on the Russians, but not
so much that one should give the balance...there needs
to be quite a few more playings to tell if that is necessary.
