Overview:

For nearly one month, heavy rain and mud had prevented further Russian offensives against the German army trapped in the Courland pocket. When a sudden heavy frost returned the roads to passable conditions in mid-December, a forbidding atmosphere of expectation swept over the defenders. In the front line near Stedini, Leutnant Biderman was part of Kampfgruppe Zoll defending a key road junction towards Liepaja. On 21 December, a massive bombardment swept over their lines, then moved to continue pounding their flanks. Bidermann caught sight of several landsers running past in panic, rasping "Panzer! Panzer!" Near company HQ, he found an anti-tank unit frantically preparing its panzerfausts for close combat. Grabbing one of the long gray-green tubes, he shouted "Come on! Let's go! They're coming!"
Attacker: Russian (Elements of 1st Baltic Front and 19th Tank Corps)
Defender: German (Kampfgruppe Zoll, Infanterie-Division 132 and Sturmgeschütz-Brigade 912, Panzer-Division12)

2023-01-21(D) Asad Rustum vs Peter Rogneholt German win
2021-08-09(D) Indy Lagu vs Alan Hildebrandt German winOur game was like Dave Mareske's. Alan's Russian infantry were a bit too cautious, imho.
His tanks were a bit too aggressive. I was able to get my reinforcements into good positions
before the Russians were close.

Unlike Mr. Mareske, I had good fortune with my PF, and took out 4 AFV with them.
One AFV fell to the PSK, and one to the StuG.

Alan's attack was a bit scattered. The bulk of his force on the northern side, and a
small force on the south.

Alan rated this game lower than I did (he put it at average). We are going to switch sides
and try again.

It's certainly worth a play.
2021-08-02(D) Dave Mareske vs Dennis Dowd German winA cautious advance by the Russians enabled the Germans to fall back in good order with a few delay tactics. None of the PF ever hit (it is one of my curses!), but my SP and AT guns were able to secure many hits and few kills on the superior armored Russian tanks.
2021-06-26(A) Rich Weiley vs Dave Wallace German winI felt I was behind pretty early in this game as the German sniper eliminated the 8-1 in my first movement phase, the two squads stacked with him failed their LLTCs and never got back into the game. I pressed on and made some headway but around turn 4 suffered a further setback when the sniper struck again to eliminate the 7-0 and the 9-1 was wounded following a 12 on a self rally roll. I played through my turn 5 but midway through the German turn it became clear I lacked enough good order infantry to win.
2021-06-02(D) David Ramsey vs Martin Barker Russian winCame down to the last CC but in truth a good start for the Russians meant that even with some lucky dice at the end the Germans couldn't stand up to the onslaught.

As featured on IR 46.
