Overview:

The village of Morong, situated on a good river defensive line, had been inexplicably abandoned without a fight by the Philippine 1st Division. Besides yielding prime defensive terrain to the enemy, to the east the move also left the flank of the Philippine 2nd Division dangling. Until the 1st Division could move back into position an advance guard was needed to reconnoiter and secure the town. An advance guard was needed to reconnoiter and secure the town. The task fell to the ragged troopers and bony horses of the 26th Cavalry.
Attacker: American (1st Platoon, E Troop, 25th Cavalry Regiment (Philippine Scouts))

2021-06-04(A) Shane Pask vs American winThe initial charges went well and the Japs in the village were all killed on turn 1. The breeze increased in strength on J1 and prevented smoke for the rest of the game. The squads in the river crossed safely into the jungle (but got no further). Ramsey (9-2) crossed the river with a squad but this turned out to be a bad idea as the reinforcements quickly eliminated them and gained 40Q1 on turn 3. I retook 40Q1 on my last turn. Japs broke my squads on 40Q1 with mortar fire and had the potential to take both victory hexes but low GI rolls of 3, 3 and 4 prevented any Japanese advance.
2021-04-19(D) Kermit Mullins vs Dan Best Japanese winDan's Philippine Scouts came in hard and fast and in Defensive Fire, I would break 3 of the 4 Japanese half-squads. But I would manage to break one of the half-squads, and hold the Pagoda until Turn 2. I placed the MMG and mortars on the hill and my 10-1 , 9-1 and 8-0 all defended the bridge. By Turn 5, Dan had control of the victory hex by the bridge. But a Banzai charge on Turn 6 and lots of fire managed to push the Philippine Scouts back and give control back to the Japanese. A last desperate assault on Turn 7 was stopped with two timely Pins. That gave the win to the Japanese. Fun scenario.
