Overview:

"Despair" - On 12th July 1943, the Soviet counter-offensive of 1943 began. Taking advantage of the exhaustion of the panzers mired in the defenses of the Kursk salient, three Soviet Fronts attacked near Orel, the 1941 springboard for the Nazi advance on Moscow. While some sectors resisted well, the situation of the 55th Army Corps, in the northwest of the salient, quickly became desperate. The powerful 11th Guards Army, well commanded by General Bagramian, punched through the German lines and threatened to isolate the enemy forces around Orel. But the 5th Panzer Division succeeds in slowing the Russian riflemen, allowing more time for mobile reinforcements to arrive. The 4th Panzer Division thus provided a Kampfgruppe built around its reconnaissance elements that joined with the 9th Panzer Division to meet the advance elements of Bagramian. Despite receiving reinforcements and new equipment, such as heavy 88mm anti-tank guns, the situation of the kampfgruppe remained difficult, especially with the Guards striving to maintain the initiative.

2021-05-12(D) O Ramaille vs Philippe Duchon Russian winThe German AT gun setup South of the village guarding the flanks. The Russian entered in force from the North West pushing back the German defenders. Despite some inflicted casualties, the Germans were unable to stop the Russian advance into the village helped by a skilled tank/infantry coordination. The morale failed the Germans most of the time and their accuracy was poor. The reinforcements arrived too late when all the village was already in Russian control. Several Russian tanks were burnt but the infantry was still holding quite all the buildings. The 9-2 leader killed itself squeezed by its own panzer (voluntarily bailing out of his tank with a casualty MC and deadly wound). A complete Russian victory.
A very difficult scenario for the Germans with too many options of attack for the Russians.

2021-03-29(A) Pascal Boileau vs Stephane Renaudin Russian winA very nice and well named scenario. At the beginning of the game, as the Russians, I was hopeless since the task of winning seems unreachable... At mid-game, losses raised dramatically in each camp and both players were hopeless. At the end, uncertainty hung over the issue of the game. Suddenly a Russian leader and his team became berseks and a CH vaporized one of the last standing squad. Therefore, in the very last turn, the German defense crumbled... and the way to victory for the Russians was wide open. Many thanks to Stephane for this tremendous game !
