Overview:
Christmas Day was no holiday for the intrepid troops of the Philippine Army’s 26th Cavalry ‘Philippine Scouts’. After a fairly quiet morning the Japanese advance continued south at noontime, with Lt. Col. Kuro Kitamura’s crack 48th Reconnaissance Regiment rolling east from Binalonan and encountering advanced elements of the cavalry unit there. After a pitched battle, the cavalry withdrew south to delay the Japanese advance and give the 2nd Squadron a chance to get into position on the south bank of the Agno River. The cavalry patrols north of the river were tasked with delaying the Japanese just enough to allow the defense to be set at the “D2” lineAttacker: Japanese (48th Reconnaissance Regiment)
