Overview:
The Russians launched a major offensive to cut off and eliminate the German salient on the Dniepr River. Encirclement of the two German Korps was complete by the fourth day. For the next couple of days, the Germans would struggle to establish a coherent western defensive perimeter. On 28th January, SS-Obersturmführer Wili Hein was detached from his command and assigned to take a group of four Sturmgeschütz (none with a functioning radio) from the SS-Wiking Division's repair shop, to support a scratch force of transport and other rear-echelon troops defending the Ukrainian town of Olshana.Attacker: German (SS) (Kampfgruppe Hein, 5th SS Panzer Division)
