Overview:
Early in the afternoon, F Company tried to seize Battery Wheeler located near the NCO Quarters west of the Parade Grounds. Intense small arms fire greeted every advance the paratroopers made. After several attempts and numerous casualties, including half of their officers, F Company was forced to pull back. Now D Company would have their turn at Battery Wheeler. LT Joseph Turinsky cautiously led his men down the open embankment leading to the battery position.
