Overview:

Throughout the Hell that was October in Stalingrad, determined and costly German assaults had managed to steadily shrink the Russian defensive perimeter. Everywhere it seemed that the Russians were hanging on by the slimmest of margins. On this day, near the Red October plant, German troops of the 79th Infantry Division finally broke through, reaching the HQ of Guryev’s beleaguered 39th Guards. As the Germans were about to surround the hard-pressed headquarters personnel, hurriedly dispatched reinforcements (a company of 62nd Army’s Headquarter’s Guard) arrived.
Attacker: German (Infanterie-Division 79)

2021-04-24(A) Pascal Boileau vs Jean Frerot German winA flank maneuver to install some German troops to await the Russian reinforcements in order to slow their progression. Then, the firepower of the German troops overwhelmed the last Russians gathered in the victory building... A very good scenario.
2020-05-15(A) Rich Weiley vs Dave Longworth German winClassic ASL my firegroups blasted a way for my troops to advance. Dave had very poor rolls for his reinforcements which allowed me to occupy the victory building in strength before they arrived.
2020-03-19(A) Indy Lagu vs Rob Oler Russian winRob and I played this classic scenario...in fact, it's the very first scenario I ever played.

I thought Rob set up waaay too far back; I was wary in my first turn for HIP ambushes, but found none. I cleared the bE1 building by turn 2 (or was it 3). I was making decent progress then ran into his HQ buzzsaw.

Rob's HMG got a rate tear of about 7 or 8 shots on turn 4 and broke most of my attacking Germans. He had a similar rate tear on turn 5. There was a moment when I had 8 broken squads.

I regrouped and managed to get a toehold in the victory building, but in the end, Rob beat me 4-3 (in squads).

Rob had poor luck with the reinforcements. Only 4 squads and the leader entered. I think if Rob had a bit worse luck with his HMG and average luck with his reinforcements, the outcome would have been the same.

Highlight for me: Mopping up. Twice, on consecutive turns, in the same building.

A fun game, with several turns of fortune (I generated a hero and two berserk squads, Rob had a leader CR on a 12 self-rally).

I'd definitely play it again.
2020-01-24(A) Dave Mareske vs Greg Wegst German winTwo things happened in the German favor that tipped the balance in their favor. On Turn one the Germans were able to sneak a half squad past the initial Russian line after a "12" in CC. Later in the game when the Germans were knocking on the door, the German sniper activated and broke a Russian squad holding the fortified building. Even so, the Russians had a pretty good chance but could not win a Melee outright, tying up their troops. Great game.
