Overview:

In August 1942 the Red Army attempted to retake Rzhev and eliminate the most dangerous threat to the Russian capital. After almost a month of relentless attacks and bitter fighting, the Red Army had made only very small gains. On 4 September the Russian 153rd Tank Brigade and its lend-lease tanks struck and broke through the 78. Infanterie-Division's defenses in the wooded area south of Karmanovo. Attempting to seal the breach was German infantry supported by long-barrelled Panzer IIIs from the 2. Panzer-Division.

2021-08-05(D) Jeff B vs Magnus Rimvall Russian winFine balance between infantry and tanks in this one, taking place in a really nice playing area (including one of the best boards around - FrFA). Somewhat of a meeting engagement, as the Russians must enter and position their tanks optimally to greet the German horde, but the Russian setup is key in not allowing the onboard German infantry any open gaps. Germans came mostly up the middle, though they tested the flanks to an extent. The southern force, without tank support, running into a bit more resistance. It took until Turn 3 to wrap up a couple of the Russian speedbump squads, while both sides were fairly cautious with their tanks. It wasn't until Turn 5 that the Germans really started to make their push. It worked to their favor trading two of their tanks and another immobilized to three for the Russians, but almost half of their infantry were broken. By the end of Turn 6 however their chances were pretty well gone, having lost another tank to CC, and all but 1.5 squads broken. Really enjoyable scenario, where every piece on the board is of vital importance. Expect this one to go to the end nearly every time.
2021-07-24(D) nathan wegener vs Tom Cvetinovich Russian winI Bid Russians as they have a bit of an advantage. Less than ideal squad placement cost me a couple squads earlier than appropriate but the delays they caused allowed my Tanks to save the day. Came down to a last turn push for the victory area where my last squad and two Lee’s held off the remaining German rush. StL2021
