Overview:

Nearly two weeks after the start of Operation BARBAROSSA, the general offensive in the south began. The first phase commenced on 2 July and had the units of Armeegruppe Sud advancing on the Prut River line. While the main role was reversed for the mostly experienced German 11.Armee, the German LIV Korps (including the Romanian 5th Infantry Division) located on the right flank had the mission to capture and occupy Balti and Dubosan. The Romanian 5th Infantry Division clashed with Soviet Frontier Units in the Zgardesti-Mandresti area. At 1400 hours, the Romanian 8th Dorobanti Regiment attacked the village of Zgardesti, a cluster of primitive huts located around a couple of barns.

2022-02-21(A) Indy Lagu vs Rob Oler Russian winRob and I had the same experience as Dave and Dan. The Russian MMGs set up in the back, and
fire lanes kept the Romanians at bay. Rob resigned the Romanian attack after turn 4.

The huts are a two-edges sword. They make skulking difficult for the Russians (several times,
I chose to prep fire instead of skulking), but they allow lots of fire lanes.

Rob thinks his loss was partly due to inexperience attacking with second rate (albeit first line
troops). Once the Romanians break, it's tough for them to get back. Rob captured the two-hex
building, and that was it.

Give the more experience player the Romanians. I'd like to give it a try as attacker.
2022-02-19(A) Dave Mareske vs Dan Best Russian winThe Russians held the Romanian assault at bay keeping the MMGs towards the back and created some fire lanes. The Romanians broke and ran hurting the momentum and were only able to get the wooden building and one hut.
