Overview:

While the Axis forces slowly fell back towards Messina, the Big Red One kept up the pressure through the difficult terrain of central Sicily. The opposing Italians were fighting on native soil now, but their leadership hadn’t improved. As Gruppo Schreiber prepared for a combined-arms counterattack into Alimena, elements of the 26th Regimental Combat Team moved in ahead of them.
Attacker: American (2nd Battalion, 26th Regimental Combat Team,1st Infantry Division)
Defender: Italian (XVII Battaglione CCNN, 17° Legione CCNN "Cremora" and I Gruppo Squadrone Cavalleggeri "Palermo," Gruppo Schreiber)

2022-11-08(D) Jeff B vs Joe Arthur Italian win4.75 hrsBasically a meeting engagement, with the Americans getting first crack at positioning themselves in the town. With the Italians surely having some rather sneaky shots down the narrow street, this will be rather limited and scripted. A lot will come down to the vehicles, with the Americans first getting theirs on Turn 2, but having a decided advantage as far as quality goes. Once the opening salvos are completed it's going to be a rather static game, with a lot coming down to luck of the dice. Besides the one in my setup area, I grabbed five additional buildings on Turn 1, pushing this up to nine by the end of Turn 2. The west central area would turn out to be a lost cause, but my men fought stoutly enough to delay the Americans enough for my eastern force to almost completely eliminate the Americans there. My armor was almost completely decimated, but with only three turns left to push the Italians out of a strongly-held six+ locations the Americans felt it was time to give up. Considering my opponent rolled abysmally (8.15 on 20 IFT shots), and didn't fare much better in CC, I would definitely want the Americans here. Quite a boring scenario.
2022-10-22(A) Kermit Mullins vs Dan Best American winTurns 1 -3 were pretty much going the way of the Italians as they stormed into the buildings. The Americans rolled horribly most of the game and missed morale checks and ELR'd early and often. The Italian tanks were knocked out and Recalled before they could fire a shot. The Italian Armored Cars fared only slightly better before being knocked out. The Americans continued push forward and get into MELEE. Again, the average American CC roll was a 9 which meant that I lost most of the MELEE's. But American firepower eventually forced the Italians back and secured the victory.
