Overview:

The initial plan for the capture of Viru Harbour called for a diversionary attack by Lieutenant Brown’s platoon on the small village of Tombe located on the east side of the harbor while the main body, under Lieutenant-Colonel Currin, would then attack the village of Tetemara on the west side of the harbor. Meanwhile the main body under Lieutenant Colonel Michael S. Currin, would then attack the village of Tetemara on the west side of the harbour. However, when moving into position, Brown's platoon was discovered and forced to withdraw. Worried that the Japanese would reinforce the garrison at Tombe, LCOL Currin ordered a second platoon under the command of Captain Walker to augment Brown's platoon.
