Overview:

Operation SILBERFUCHS was launched on 29 June. This was the German-Finnish effort to capture Murmansk and the Murmansk railroad. The German Mountain Corps Norway had crossed the border and consisted of two tough and battle-tested German mountain divisions. However, the Germans had counted on supply roads that did not actually work as such. The mountain troops could not move much faster than a kilometer per hour. By 4 July, the Germans had successfully established a bridgehead across a river in the rocky northern terrain almost devoid of tree growth. Plans to proceed would have to wait as the Soviets launched a series of attacks including an amphibious landing on the Rybachry peninsula which threatened the German flank.

2023-01-23(A) Andy Beaton vs Jeff WassermanA Russian winSet the village as my target, sent the whole force to swarm the left hill. Sent two tanks home at the earliest opportunity, but the Germans abandoned the hill before I could unleash the human wave. The German mortar broke a couple of squads but was never effective, but I cracked the village with a berserk commissar and two 527 squads, followed by a critical hit from the remaining tank that took out the best german leader. After that, it was just a case of numbers in close combat, and the Russians had it.

2023-01-07(A) Dan Best vs Dave Mareske German winFirst to play and post.
2023-01-07(D) Dave Mareske vs Dan Best German winThe Russians came up the middle obviously going for the building victory conditions. The Germans had both hills defended well and lightly defended in the middle with only the MMG, squad and 9-1 LDR, but I had the MTR pointed in that direction and got some ROF breaking several squads. The 9-1 and his group also broke a stack of Russians trying to armored assault. The Russians exited two tanks so they could remove the ammo shortage SSR. Turns out this was a good move as Dan rolled lots of doubles after Turn 2. By the middle turns the Russians suffered much but were still inching closer. They captured one building after a German squad failed to self-rally. The Germans were able to reposition, but they lost their MTR. The Russians made the final push into the final two buildings by freezing one of the German squads with the tank and making another squad FPF but ended up pinning the moving squad, giving the victory to the Germans.
