Overview:

German High Command demanded the capture of Bastogne. As part of this operation, XXXXVII. Panzerkorps devised a plan to cut the Bastogne corridor, comprised of American forces attempting to break the siege of the town. The Assenois area would be the immediate German objective and the point where XXXXVII. Panzerkorps and XXXIX. Panzerkorps-moving in from the east-would merge. After linking, both groups would move north making concentric attacks on Bastogne. South of the Germans, the American 11th Armored and 85th Infantry Divisions were forming up for the VIII Corps attack west of Bastogne to be made in the morning. This put the 11th Armored on a collision course with the German western pincer.

2024-03-04(D) Brian Lazewski vs Jeffrey Malter American winNot too bad It could have went either way but is a tall order for the Germans to pull off. The Germans have to push forward through the town and use some Intensive fire. Basically they'll light up a good bit of the Sherman's
My first hit was a Critical Hit and I scorched a Panther right off. Also the Snow got worse and stayed that way until the end.
2024-01-02(D) Niels Ludvigsen vs Flemming Christensen American win
2023-12-05(D) Andy Goldin vs Eric Michael American winEric and I played this twice, switching sides after the first game, Americans won both games. Setup limitations and the terrain limit the Germans to defending in pairs of vehicles which can be overwhelmed by a Sherman swarm. To be successful, the German must get lucky on his low odds shots by hitting at long range in the falling snow and with his intensive fire shots.

In our first game, Eric attacked as the Americans and got lucky hit on one of my Panthers, knocking it out while I malf'd the MA on an IF shot. I ended up trading vehicles one for one, which is a losing proposition for the German. He was able to drive through the resulting hole in my lines for the win.

We switched sides for our second game. I made my main effort on the American left to take advantage of the valley before assaulting his Panther on Hill DD1. Eric got a better kill ratio than I did in the first game, knocking out two Shermans for every German tank I destroyed. Repeated IF shots necessitated by my Sherman swarms resulted in Eric malf'ing the MA for at least two of his vehicles. Once it was clear I'd be able to exit sufficient vehicles to win, Eric conceded.

This is a fun scenario to play with late-war heavy metal but limited replay value. A good American player who knows how to use Gyrostabilizers and the vehicle smoke will be able to pull off a win. The German player is going to win only if he has hot dice, in my opinion.
2023-10-21(D) Dan Best vs Rex Loewen American winAmericans knocked out all four German JgPz IVs and exited 8 tanks to make up for the 10 tanks they lost. Also one crew survived. Germans had only two Panthers with broken MAs. Great tank battle in the snow.
