Overview:
The 1st Canadian Corps continued its struggle to push through the Gothic Line along the Eastern side of the Italian peninsula. Now southwest of Rimini, the Canadian Royal 22nd Regiment “Van Doos” supported by British tanks from the 48th Royal Tank Regiment was tasked with clearing strongpoints on the ‘whipcord’ ridge outside of San Lorenzo including the beautiful Villa des Vergers overlooking the valley.
