Overview:

Parry Island was the last island that needed to be taken in the Eniwetok Atoll. After the Marines fought past the beaches, General Nishida had an unpleasant surprise. Hidden in pits, three Type 95 tanks climbed out and raced toward the shore. It would have been a disaster for the Americans if it wasn't for the medium tanks that had just reached the beaches. Their 75mm shells made short work of the light Japanese tanks. The M4s then moved forward to help clear bunkers and entrenchments. Deadly Japanese cannon fire suddenly opened up, raking the Marines. LTC Fromhold tried calling in naval fire on the enemy, but higher command refused because observation planes confirmed that LTC Fromhold had confused his battalion's position. However, he was able to convince a nearby Shore Fire-Control Party to contact ships, and soon shells were screaming in.
