Overview:

The 5th South African Infantry Brigade was preparing to assault Point 178 just to its north, when the 15th Panzer Division, moving southwesterly, unexpectedly (from both sides’ point of view) smashed into its southern end, scattering most of its transport and supply vehicles. Largely ignoring the Brigade, the Germans rolled on for several more miles before disappearing into a low, marshy area. The South Africans redeployed for all-around defense and sat tensely in the open desert as enemy artillery began firing on them from both the north and southwest. An attack appeared imminent from either or both directions. . .
Attacker: German (Bataillon I, Infanterie Regiment (mot) 115/Bataillon II, Panzer Regiment 8 and Panzerjägerabteilung 33)

2022-04-02(A) Vic Lauterbach vs JM German winI tried and failed to finished this mini-monster "sequel" to ASL 42 FtF years ago but this time Jim and I completed it with VASL (20+ hrs from 3-27 to 4-2). It's challenging with three OBA modules, LR TH numbers and so many Acq counters! My plan was a fixing attack with some dispersed infantry to cover a east edge board dash to get exit VP then turn the Panzers west and roll up Jim's position. I hoped to close fast enough to avoid heavy losses from OBA. Wind force dropped in GT2, so I SMOKED everything I could. Jim's plan was to wear me down and preserve at least one 88 ART. He didn't draw a second red chit until GT6, and his second module fired to the end. I finally drew a second red chit in GT7. The 100 OBA took out one MMC and sanger but overall was just an LOS hindrance. This one became an OVR clinic in GTs 6-9. Post game comments: (Jim) I should have put the 88 ARTs farther west around 27FF1; (Me) Let the PAKs tackle the Portees and Crusaders and put the 100 OBA on the 88 ARTs and leave it there. This one is a bit pro-British but rewards patience as the attacker. Unload the infantry and PAKs quickly and spread out! Make the defender chase single units around with his OBA. This one won't win over any players who dislike OBA or the Desert but if you have plenty of time it delivers some great ASL action!
2021-02-26(A) Shane Pask vs German winMoist conditions so no dust. Strong winds so no smoke. South Africans began well picking off my armour at long range. However, casualties don't count against me and Germans have so much that the tide slowly turned and the game was over on turn 7.
