Overview:

The Chinese defeat in Eastern Burma and the loss of the Burma road forced a dramatic change of the Allied plans. The idea of a defense line south of Mandalay was scrapped and the general retreat was to continue. Protecting the withdrawal over the Irrawaddy river was the 48th Infantry Brigade of the Indian 17th Infantry Division. Their adversaries were the fresh troops of the Japanese Army's 18th Division.
Attacker: Japanese (18th Division)
Defender: British (Elements of 3rd Gurkha Rifles, 48th Indian Infantry Brigade and 7th Gurkha Rifles and the 7th Armoured Brigade)

2022-05-26(A) Jeff B vs Magnus Rimvall British winJaps got a bloody nose Turn 1, losing a squad and a precious leader. I tried a hard western push, but the restrictiveness of the terrain proved this may not have been the optimal option. When my other SMC on that front wounded early my lack of leadership was definitely felt. The eastern force should be relatively contained by any competent Gurkha setup, but I did end up getting off 3VP from these units. The tanks were a much-needed bolster to the defense. A lot will depend on how they fare, but ultimately it's just going to come down to who rolls best at the end. When I lost concealment for an attempted ambush withdrawal through a tank hex, and a board edge HS pinned, I ended up 1VP short.

2013-12-21(A) Jeff T vs Rich J. British winRich came down from Seattle to the BC monthly meeting. He picked this one out of a Friendly Fire pack. We diced for sides and I got the attacking Japanese. I got off to a good start and pushed forward, but I couldn't inflict many casualties. I setup across some open ground from his main line and initiated a large banzai. Unfortunately, I lost a lot of strength as he used firelanes and all fire options well and passed his FPF rolls. His Gurkhas got the better of me in Close Combat. I still had a chance to exit enough points and got 3 (of 8) off, but his armor parked on the exit row and he stopped enough to prevent me from exiting. Good scenario and a great guy, it was fun.
