Overview:

In the Pamientung sector on the evening of 9 August, the Japanese garrison at Lishan reported no Soviet activity even though they could hear mechanical movement to the southeast of their positions. This did not last as Lishan was soon assaulted by elements of the Soviet 1052th Rifle Regiment. Meanwhile, to the southeast, a small Japanese outpost guarding the Jumonji Pass came under attack by leading elements of the Soviet 190th Rifle Division.

2022-03-16(A) Andy Bagley vs Mike Grogan DrawThe problem with this scenario is that the Victory Conditions clearly do NOT say that the Japanese win if the Russians fail to achieve their VCs. So a draw seems a very likely outcome, given how hard it is for the Russians to clear all seven hexes they need to win.
In our game the rain started early, making movement in this already-difficult terrain close to impossible (E3.54). The Japanese were positioned on level 2 hills overlooking the road, so I judged the turn 1 Human Wave option to be unfeasible because 8MFs wasn't enough to reach them. It was therefore a tentative advance across the road and slowly up the slopes, which the Japanese easily repulsed (aided by a few snakeyes!). By turn 4 it was evident that my Russians could not get close to the VC area, so I positioned my tank to give cover as they retreated across the road back to Board 42. The tank survived one TH-hero attack, and then ran away to prevent any others. By their turn five the Japanese were up to 7CVPs, but the weather and terrain made it impossible for them to pursue the Russians for more CVPs, so we agreed the draw.
Most DB scenarios I've played have been excellent, but this one was very disappointing.
2012-02-19(A) Paolo Cariolato vs gheba Russian winFor such a small scenario, Jumonji Pass is an hell of fun, and lot of toys too. I don't think it's a good tournement scenario because it's too small and wild.
A first turn human wave took my opponent by surprise and when smoke settled 3 russian squad were dead, but 3 japanese were dead too. Which is good in my book. I took horrendous losses during 2nd and 3rd turn, tring to climb up the mountain pass road. My CVP was up to 10 when my T34 broke the main armament on a suicide japanese squad on turn 4th. The AFV was recalled but at that point my opponent forces were down to just a reduced elite japanese squad, the CVP tally was at 11, and I already get 6 of the 7 hexes.
On the 6th turn the lone japanese half-squad was able to survive a 14(+1) a 24 flat (the FT broke on its very first roll) and a 8 (-1), after that I advanced in melee with a -4 dr modifier for ambush which escaped me since I rolled a 5. I then rolled a 2 in the 6:1 (-2) ensuing melee even a 12 wouldn't have mattered since it was enough to kill the HS.
