Overview:

Major Arthur C. Parker, withdrawing with remnants of his 598th Artillery Battalion, including only three guns, realized the strategic value of the crossroads he was approaching. The center of the US XVIII Airborne Corps sector would be at risk. With the 2nd SS-Panzer Corps hot on his heels, the Major decided to dig in and make a stand. Bolstered with reinforcements, including A vehicles and several tanks, Parker withstood everything the Germans threw at him. On the afternoon of the 23rd, having held out for three days, Parker braced for yet another attack.
Attacker: German (SS) (Bataillon II and III, SS-Panzergrenadier-Regiment 4 "Der Führer" and Kompanie 7, SS-Panzer-Regiment 2, SS-Panzer-Division 2 "Das Reich")
Defender: American (Battery A, 598th Field Artillery Battalion, 203rd Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion, D Troop, 87th Mechanized Cavalry Squadron, Task Force Kane and Richardson, 3rd Armored Division and Company F, 2nd Battalion, 325th Glider Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborn)

2022-04-23(D) Kermit Mullins vs Dan Best American winTough scenario for the Germans. The American OBA hit the brush patch in the center and forced the Germans to go around both sides and into clusters of bore-sighted hexes. The result was awful for the German armor. 2 MKIV's immobilized, 3 MKIV's knocked out, 1 Panther and 1 STUG knocked out. At the end of 3 turns, the Germans conceded as they had lost the juice necessary to wrinkle out the mostly still concealed US Infantry supported by all the half-tracks, a 105 gun , a Stuart and 3 of the Shermans.

2020-04-20(D) Jeff B vs Phil Wentworth American win9.5 hrsA much different game this time around. Whereas I tried the rhino approach and failed miserably, my opponent consolidated his forces in the middle and tried a wedge approach. Had he done this with his western infantry as well I think he may have had enough muscle to make it a complete game, but they entered cautiously along the wooded board edge - right in the midst of my pre-registered 100mm OBA hex. This was also where I had the bulk of my defense and, between the OBA and my massive firepower, he amazingly only lost a squad (though a few more were broken). Turn 2 he made a vital mistake when he sent an unsupported strike with HTs straight into my line of tanks. Four of them were lost, and another permanently broke its MG, but another amazingly survived on my doorstep. His eastern reinforcements avoided my wall of BAZ swinging around north of the pond and fenced compound heading for the woods. The next turn saw him lose two more HTs and a tank, while I suffered my first casualty (an 8-0). His eastern tanks started pushing through the woods to try and link up with their comrades. The next turn was much better for him, as I lost both M5A1s and a squad to only a shocked tank for him. But I had repositioned my M16s in the east to deal with his second batch of reinforcements. Turn 5 finally saw me lose a M5A1, but at the expense of two of his Panzers. One of his Tigers managed to bull through the woods, but the other immobilized trying to unbog. Meanwhile his eastern reinforcements were predictably running into trouble, despite my MMG squad being broken and MALFing both my mortar and a M4A1 MA. In the center of Boards 35 and 19 I had just unleashed another round of OBA doom, and his initial reinforcements in the east were having to battle their way through a band of infantry, bookended by two MMGs and spearheaded by my howitzer. Feeling a distinct lack of punch for the amount of time remaining, my opponent decided to call it a day - having made a much more competitive effort than I did as the Attacker.
