Overview:

As the 1st and 5th Marines advanced through the city, their primary role was to eliminate the main enemy positions along the key thoroughfares of the city, such as Ma Po Boulevard, and to wrest the city's main buildings, like the RR Station, Deoksu Palace and Government House, from enemy control. Much of the task of mopping up the smaller isolated or bypassed pockets of enemy resistance was left to the 2nd Battalion of the Korean Marine Corps, which was attached to the 1st Marines. As COL "Chesty" Puller, in command of the 1st Marines, noted of his Korean counterparts, they were the ones best suited "to tell the Cowboys from the Indians."
Attacker: Korean Marine Corps (2nd Battalion, 1st Regiment, Korean Marine Corps)
Defender: North Korean (Seoul City Regiment, 78th Independent Infantry Regiment and the 25th Infantry Brigade, with 111th Security Regiment, 513th Artillery Regiment, 10th Railroad Regiment, and 17th Rifle Division)
