Overview:
The 1st Belorussian Front was scheduled to launch its offensive on 23 June; however its 5th Army's forward battalions attacked on 22 June in order to seize the first trench line and recon the extent of the depth of the defenses. These forward battalions achieved significant success, penetrating up to 4 kilometers. and not only forced the German divisions of the VI Corps to commit their reserves, the 14th Infantry Division (VI Corps Reserve) was also committed. The German divisions were then smashed over the next several days. The 3rd Panzer Army's Reserve, the 95th Infantry Division, was forced to be committed and immediately took heavy losses and was thrown back. The 5th Army renewed its attack on the morning of 25 June. and expanded the break through to a width of 25 kilometers. The Cavalry-Mechanized Group was committed into the breach to the south.Attacker: German (Reinforced elements of \/I Corps)
Defender: Russian (Elements of Mechanized-Cavalry Group. 3rd Belorussian Front)
