Overview:

A war of attrition had descended upon the villages of Hatten and Rittershoffen in the French province of Alsace. German attempts to break through this sector and into the open plains beyond as part of Operation NORDWIND had been halted through the combined efforts of numerous American units. However, NORDWIND continued and German reinforcements in the form of an SS panzer division began to deploy to the south of Hatten seeking a breakthrough in that sector. German High Command wanted to ensure the American defenders in Hatten and Rittershoffen remained pinned down and not be available for redeployment. To this end, fresh Germans in the form of veteran infantry from Fallschirmjäger-Division 7 arrived and immediately went on the offensive.

2024-01-15(A) Vic Lauterbach vs RC American winI had the GIs and my setup had serious flaws which Robert's methodical attack exposed. I couldn't find useful positions for the 60 LMORs [no SSR per B23.8 so no rooftops] and two MMC in E14 were cut off and eliminated early. Two HS w/MMGs ready to move into the N7 and M12 steeples and keeping both M10s back to potentially ambush a Panther would have helped. Roberts 8ML infantry crashed through my upfront defense, the Panthers quickly took out my TDs and the victory buildings fell like dominos. In spite of it all, this was a fun scenario that offers both sides tactical options. The margin for error by the US player is small especially against a well-planned and well-executed attack like Robert's.
2022-07-04(D) Dave Mareske vs Dennis Dowd American winGermans have to push hard. I think the American setup forced the Germans to go a certain direction which game the Americans opportunities to counter, if only they could make a MC. Germans came up a few hexes short of victory in the end even with American poor morale.
2022-01-17(A) David Ramsey vs Martin Barker American win

(VASL Log)
Close but not close enough. The Germans couldn't push home a decent looking start. Full video replay on Illuminating Rounds 61.
2021-12-02(D) Andy Bagley vs Magnus Rimvall German winAnother close game decided in the last CC Phase, though the Germans were well ahead by then. Excellent balance of pace and aggression by the Germans, pressing forward steadily supported with very good tactical play. Low American morale failed to stand up against superior German firepower, and I couldn't keep enough units concealed to offset this. Might have been harder for him if a few DRs had gone my way, particularly the CC against a Panther that need 8 or less to kill (I failed), but overall an excellent and very enjoyable game.
2021-12-01(A) Chuck Dye vs DD American win
2021-11-15(D) Michael Rodgers vs Hans Bugge American winVery close game, not decided until final CC phase.
2021-11-08(A) Simon Staniforth vs American winGermans fell short in the J14 VC area too many troops broke in the final turn. HTs weren’t really a factor both getting Stunned / Recalled and whilst 2x M10 fell to PF shots (both needing 3TH!) the US won the infantry battle with his close up FP. Think I used the Smoke OBA too early rather than save for the final push
2021-11-08(D) Andy Bagley vs American winA close and exciting game, and would have been even closer had the dice not been on my side. The German forces clearly outmatch the Americans and they have plenty of smoke available, but their biggest problem is time – just five turns to reach those objectives. The German attack started quite slowly, avoiding casualties but meaning they had a lot of ground to cover (some of it open) in the last three turns. Even so, on the last turn they came close to reaching the required number of victory locations (although would still have had to win the CCs). However, great American shooting and failed German MCs meant they could not get in to two of the locations they needed, so an American win – perhaps a slightly fortunate one.
2021-10-22(D) Dan Best vs Kermit Mullins German win
2021-10-22(A) Kermit Mullins vs Dan Best German winThe Germans moved cautiously on Turns 1 and 2. One M-10 went down to the Panthers, but the other M-10 charged and immobilized one Panther and then destroyed the second tank. The Germans threw their cares to the wind after that and just went for it and made it. They managed to take the necessary locations. The American counter-attack came on and a Faust took out the M-10. Meanwhile the immobilized Panther took out the other M-10. The snipers were very active on both sides. The Germans would get the win, but both sides were pretty well chewed up at the end.
2021-08-29(D) Tuomo Lukkari vs Sami Pelkonen American win[Imported from ROAR]
2021-08-24(D) Jeff B vs Alex Koestler American win4 hrsLike the previous reported playing, the Germans dominated the first two turns. It looked like they would just bully their way up the gut. A premonition of bad things to come happened during German Turn 2 when an intrepid American HS ambushed and killed an 8-1 and 548, then withdrew into the German backfield. This HS would prove to be a very sharp thorn in the German side the rest of the game. Turn 3 saw some further German destruction, with two HS and a squad being mowed down, and another squad ambushed and killed in CC. During the American part of the turn 1.5 German squads were eliminated for FTR, a 7-0 ambushed and slaughtered, and an immobile Panther flamed up in CC. Turn 4 saw the thorny HS suck a berserk 8-1 and 838 into their lair away from the frontline action, CRing the squad in the process, and when the 9-1 and two accompanying squads were all busted up the Germans had almost nothing left.
2021-05-16(A) Eric Partizan Eric vs American win
2021-05-02(A) Richard Jenulis vs Brent Morris American winThe Germans made very good progress early on, then the wheels fell off. A mtr CH immobilized one Panther. The other Panther malfunctioned it's MA and was recalled. A MMG took out one HT and a Baz the other. A turn of bad CC sealed the Germans fate.
