Overview:
In the autumn of 1943, the 48th Panzer Corps became embroiled in what would eventually be known as the Battle of the Kiev Salient. The Russian 60th Army had broken through the German lines and captured Kiev. General Hermann Balck took over command of the corps just before the counterattacks began. 1st SS Panzer departed on 5 December, while recon and sappers of the 7th Panzer Division improved roads and bridges around Zhitomir in anticipation of the attack the following day.Attacker: German (7th Aufklerungs Battalion with 58th Panzer Pioneer Battalion, 7th Panzer Division)
