Overview:

As part of Operation FRÜHLINGSERWACHEN (SPRING AWAKENING), German Heeresgruppe E attacked Allied forces from Yugoslavia towards the town of Donji Miholjac on the Drava River. Bulgaria - never an enthusiastic partner to begin with - had recently defected from the Axis alliance and subsequently joined the Allies. They had even committed troops, something they hadn't had to do much as an Axis partner. Launching an assault reminiscent of their early pincer attacks, the Germans aimed to surround and annihilate both the Soviet 57th Army and the 1st Bulgarian Army, which were at that moment west of the Danube and north of Drava.
Attacker: German (Infanterie-Division 297)
Defender: Allied (Bulgarian/Russian) (3rd Pejota Divisia, 16th Pejota Divisia and 133rd Rifle Corps)

2025-02-09(A) Fred Jordan vs Allied (Bulgarian/Russian) winThough it was a solo game, I really enjoyed this scenario which had some wild swings of luck. The wildest moment was when the Panzer IV fired on half squad with its machineguns which created a hero. The Panzer fired its MA and this led, again, to the creation of a hero. Finally, the Panzer intensive fired its MA and killed the half squad via failed morale / casualty reduction. During the following defensive fire phase, one the newly created heroes destroyed the Panzer with a Panzer Faust shot.

2025-01-16(A) Kermit Mullins vs Dan Best Allied (Bulgarian/Russian) win2.5 hrsNot sure that I liked or greatly disliked this scenario. I found it hard as the Germans. I made a little progress on Turn 1, but suffered for it with a broken 8-0 and 4 x broken squads. I moved forward into the village in time for Dan's MKIV to put a serious hurt on me The MKIV would break nearly all my attackers trying to get into position for a 1 Hex range Panzerfaust shot. I made a Hero and sent him after the tank, but Dan got a Crit hit and wasted him along with a squad. On Turn 3, Dan tried to move the MKIV and I got him with a faust. But his Russians came on just as I was taking the church victory location. The game would end in CC in the L6 building. I would lose and that was game. A Panzerschreck would have been nice...just say'n. Dan and I missed the errata that is should have been 1945...what a difference that would have made for my Panzerfausting...I was robbed!!! :)
