Overview:
The 2nd Tank Army was created by STAVKA in September 1942 and ordered to be ready for combat operations by February 1943. Soon after the readiness directive, the 2nd Tank Army was assigned to the Central Front and ordered to launch an encircling attack against 2. Panzerarmee units located in the Kromy-Orel theater. Facing a 200km march through bad weather and deep snow to reach their assembly area, elements of the 2nd Tank Army were strung out over the poor road network and arrived piecemeal to the battle. Despite the haphazard deployment of the Soviet forces, on 1 March STAVKA ordered the attack to proceed with a jump-off time of 1300 hours.Attacker: Russian (160th Tank Brigade)
