Overview:

Operation Epsom was in full swing from the day before. The 15th Scots had reached the Odon River on the right flank of the front. In an effort to widen this front the 2nd Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders were sent to push on to the Odon and capture the bridge at Tourmauville to expand the front eastward. At the headquarters of the Hitler Youth Reconnaissance Battalion in Mondrainville, a battlegroup of SS had been organized and was ordered north to capture the railway crossing at Colleville. A Mk VI and an eight wheeled armored car escorted them. They didn't know it at the time, but the 2nd Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders were assembled in Colleville and were about to push south through Mondrainville in their effort to reach the bridge.
