2024-10-16 | (A) Jon Jaramillo | vs | Matt K | | German (SS) win | 6.67 hrs | This was a very tight game that went down to the wire, but the Germans were able to eke out a victory cleaning up all the victory locations on the last game turn. The decisive point in the game was a CX German HS running through five open ground hexes to get adjacent to the last Russian 122, finding a PF in AFPh on a 1 and then hitting and burning the 122 from the side. That opened up the board for my units to get into to position to CC the Russians for the victory locations. Great game. |
2024-08-01 | (A) Andy Bagley | vs | Jim Bishop | | German (SS) win | | Great, if somewhat large, scenario. I took the Group B option as the Germans, Russians took Groups A2 and B2, and concentrated on defending areas around the two victory buildings rather than an up-front defence. I was able to advance steadily early on without taking serious losses until a Russian 57LL blew the tracks off one of my King Tigers, and the crew bailed out (cowards!). In return however, I got lucky when my armour leader, in an in motion King Tiger, hit and destroyed the Russian SU100, which was also moving at the time. However, I lost all my StuGIIIs and my advance in the north was being held up by a well-placed T34/85 - that is until my infantry rolled snakeyes on an IFT shot against the CE crew, shooting them dead. At this point (during my turn 5) Jim conceded, which might have been a little early as he still had a FT and HMG to use in defence of the southern victory building. But I had almost all my infantry and three AFVs still available and could surround the remaining Russians, so probably fair enough. |

2024-06-10 | (D) Douglas Leslie | vs | Tim Reade | D | German (SS) win | | Played in Round 2 of the Illuminating Rounds competition. Tim outbid me to play the Germans and I got the balance in the shape of a T34/85 tank which joined 3 IS-2ms in the hope of stopping the German juggernaut. The performance of the Russian armour here could euphemistically be described as disappointing. One IS-2 disappeared into a cellar, another succumbed to a sniper attack and the third managed to kill precisely zero German AFVs or infantry. Tim did a great job of moving his armour and infantry forward and the Russians were overwhelmed with one one player turn to go. |
2024-06-03 | (D) Dave Mareske | vs | Martin Barker | | German (SS) win | | Great game with Martin that came down to the last CC. Lots of 2s and 12s in the game that made everything interesting which eventually swung to the German favor. The Russian FT ran out of gas on its first shot, which was both late in the game and started the slow decline of the Russian defense. Played as part of the Illuminating Rounds Tournament. |
2024-05-29 | (A) Paolo Cariolato | vs | Luca Martini | | German (SS) win | | Went down to the last CC when the russian where not able to snatch one building hex from my Germans.
One Tiger rolled 12 on the start and another broke MA on its second shot. Those IS survived 2 frontal PFs and 2 88LL shots. In the end they all went down.
The Russian FT had a field day, killed 2 AFVs and vaporized many MMCs stayed in the game till the very end. Those 122 hit everything they shot at. It was a wild scenario. Highly reccomended. |

2021-07-25 | (D) Vilis Pavulans | vs | Kalle Widell | | Russian win | | The german assault was heavy in the southern part and a bit weaker in the center. Nothing came in at the north to begin with. The russians tried desperately to kindle parts of the wooden buildings in the south to hamper the german advance but 4 tries gave nothing. First shot with the flamethrower broke it as per usual. Things looked very bleak. Despite that, the german had to commit much infantry in the south and as the game neared the end he could not get enough troops up to the north and in the penultimate turn he saw that the war was lost anyway and gave up. |

2017-07-23 | (D) Gordon Jupp | vs | Nick Holmshaw | | Russian win | | Great game with variable OOB and toys for both sides. I thought it was game over on Turn 2 when both my 57mm ATG were over run and the arriving SU100 was taken out by a King Tiger from a LOS that I completely missed! However, the remaining Tanks did a good delaying job and we called it at the end of T6 as one of the victory buildings was not within reach of the attackers. |
2016-05-07 | (D) Rich Weiley | vs | Dave Wilson | | Russian win | | Close game. Hung to pull out a win when the 50cal went a rate tear to break or 5 of the six squads adjacent to the last required hex in the board 10 building. That squad then failed its PAATC to advance into the location. |

2014-11-15 | (D) X von Marwitz | vs | Bruno Nitrosso | | German (SS) win | | Played this again, being the Russians this time, against an excellent opponent Bruno Nitrosso. He had completely stomped me in a game of J157 last year, so I was up on my toes right from the start. The start of this scenario was the most exciting thing of all. I came up with some most devious plan that made me so excited that I partly spoiled it by misplacement of a unit in the overall ploy. So instead of being potentially devastating, it still did serve to overturn the German plans to quite some degree. I need to play this again avoiding my flaw to see what happens then... Anyway, the second and third turn went well for the Germans, though, with my Russians taking significant losses and falling back to the 10Z6 victory building. There, things seemed to fall apart for the Russians in no time but the defence crystallized turning the streets around it into a panzer-graveyard, killing two StuGs, the StuH and a King Tiger along with the FT-toting HS in one epic Defensive Fire Phase. Lady Luck surely smiled down on me there. These blows allowed the Russians, to rush a pair of T34/85s to aid the Z6 forces that were still very outnumbered with regard to infantry. They were able to deliver some other hard blows on exposed infantry. But it could not go on forever, so when I advanced my 9-2+infantry into a CC with a -3 ambush advantage against some CX Germans with a very good chance to kill them outright and to infiltrate back into the Z6 building, Lady Luck had left - and left me stuck in Melee. While success in my stunt would likely have decided the scenario in my favor, now, the Germans came back and eventually overcame the valiant Russian defenders. My very skilled opponent then managed to get his way bit by bit, losing another King Tiger in the process and being forced to see a prisoner HS and captured 9-1 kill their German guards and return back to action. At 3:30 a.m. it was all over with the Germans ruling supreme and both players mutually exhausted but happy by this truly excellent and most exciting playing. |
2014-11-04 | (D) Richard Carter | vs | Mark Moore | | German (SS) win | | I made some errors in judgement, coming out of HIP too early with one and not soon enough with another gun. He ended up having a lot of his force to root me out of the last few victory hexes. Still a fun one. |
2014-10-30 | (A) X von Marwitz | vs | David Wallace | | German (SS) win | | Grim late war 1945 action. For once, the Germans are on the offensive on a local counterattack AND they have the equipment and troops for some fearsome punch. On the other side, it is elite Russians holed up in a village, whose task it is to keep the Germans out. The Germans need to control two crossroads and two buildings. Somewhat special is, that the Germans have to cross that ONE bridge across a fridgid stream or pass through the stream which is very unpleasant for infantry. To boot, the Russians cannot set up much to defend up front. So the Germans will eventually force the bridge, and they better do so quickly. Later on they need the time to root the Russians out of stone buildings. The scenario has variable OoBs where both sides may opt to select one of two choices for two sets of forces each. This one's got King Tigers, IS-2m's, FT, DC, .50Cal, 9-2 leaders for both sides, a German 9-2 AL, Assault Engineers, AT mines - you name it. Plenty of toys for both sides. To boot, as of end of Oct. 2014, ROAR has this extremely balanced with 50 German to 49 Russian wins coupled with an Excitement Rating of 7.5 out of 10 which is very good. For various reansons, my game was spread out over considerable time via VASL, so I do not remember all details. All in all, I was favored by the dice for sure. I agressively pushed forward to close in with the Russians. Despite their high quality of troops and equimpent, they don't have enough to cover, that is hold, everything, so it is likely that the game will develop into a slug-out about one of the two victory buildings. The Russians were trying to delay me in the south and building a castle in the north. After securing the south, the Germans had to hurry north to be able to help in time to attack the "castle" with overwhelming odds. One highlight of our playing worthy to make it into ASL folklore forever is the following: A CX German 238 moved and captured an unpossessed Russain 57LL ATG. They turned it around during the APh with the intent to aquire a hex where the Russian menace (9-2, 458+.50Cal concealed) was lurking in the "castle" to cover the street I had to pass. I forgot that there would be no AQ at all if firing ITT until after I rolled. This actually was a Basic TH of 8 +17 (!!!) shot - a feat to pull off in itself: Fire during APh (+2), Captured (+2), Unqualified Use (+2), CX (+1), Stone Building (+3), Concealed Target (+2), CA change for 3 hexspines (+5) = +17. My Fallschirmjäger aimed with a vengeance, though, and rolled Snakes followed by a subsequent dr of 1 for an improbable Critical Hit. 14FP -3! Random Selection hits... the enemy 9-2!! The result is a 3MC which the Leader shrugs off as does his .50Cal toting squad both unpinned... I got the Acquisition, though. Wasn't that the plan in the first place? It came down to the last German half turn with several 36FP+ shots directed by 9-2 leaders from both sides at Point Blank range within the last victory building that only did not result in immediate annihilation because of the presence of SMOKE for both sides. In the end, though, all Russians broke and would be eliminated for FtR giving the Germans Control of the Building and the win. In fact, in this scenario I managed to destroy the entire Russian OoB. Can't remember when I last (if ever) pulled this off. Although my opponent disagrees, I think that things could still have gone awry for the Germans late in the game if my kill stack would have been broken by his 36FP+4 shot. Whatever. For sure, I can recommend this scenario for play despite it being probably a bit more fun for the Germans. Toys, excitement, balance. What is there not to like? |

2013-08-15 | (D) Jesus Pie | vs | Curtis Brooks | | German (SS) win | | A great game and a great opponent. Curtis steady closed the noose, destroy my armor and cornered my troops at the VC buildings, but they hold until the last turn, when the game was decided at the last CC. |
2012-01-02 | (D) Andy Beaton | vs | Richard Hooks | | German (SS) win | | The tide turned on my when I lost my 9-2 to a sniper, but it came down to the last turn with all the German survivors (not in melee) converging on the last IS-2 tank. All the PF shots missed or bounced until one got an immob result and allowed perfect DC placement on its back hull. Great game. |

2010-09-26 | (A) nathan wegener | vs | Albert W | | German (SS) win | | Down to the wire on this play CC in the victory hex on the final half turn for the win. To set up the final CC - I delievered a double snoogie against a nasty 9-2 + 2.5 squads and a 9-1 and squad of my own. If you've never double snoogied before, I highly recommend trying it! |
2010-09-15 | (D) David Ramsey | vs | Martin Barker | | Russian win | | Nice scenario with some good heavy metal fun! |
2010-08-28 | (D) nathan wegener | vs | Peter W | | Russian win | | Tiger IIs had trouble with their transmissions - lost 2 to start rolls. HIP 57LL got a APCR rear turret hit to take out the 3rd. Russian infantry fell back in reasonable order and Germans ran out of time. |
