Overview:

The Hlegu roadblock put a huge wrench in the Commonwealth evacuation plan. With Japanese forces cutting the roads to the north and south, the main Commonwealth troop concentrations in Burma were encircled like a lion in a beater line. The Imperial Lion was not toothless however, and plans were put into motion that would demonstrate that even while being driven, he remained dangerous. After the liberation of Pegu and the trail line on 6 March, the Commonwealth units in the area turned their attention to the roadblock to the south. A plan was formed to attack down the Pegu road at first light on 7 March. Early morning fog rising from the river forced a delayed jumping off, and the attack did not begin until 0830. A short, mostly ineffective shelling of the area surrounding the roadblock announced the beginning of the action. The roadblock was made of a couple of hastily positioned lorries and various pieces of debris. The tanks barreled at the wreckage blocking the road with the lead tank ramming headlong into the pile. Japanese defenders flung Molotov cocktails at the tank, forcing the crew to bail out.
Attacker: Commonwealth (Gurkha/British) (1st/4th and 1st/7th Gurkhas, 48th Infantry Brigade, 414 Battery and 7th Hussars, 7th Armoured Brigade)
Defender: Japanese (Company 6, 7 and 8, 2nd Battalion, 112th Infantry Regiment, 55th Infantry Division)

2025-04-13(D) Bob McKenna vs Tank Japanese winLIASL APRIL 2025

Gurkhas hit IJA right flank through the rice patties and head for the roadblock. The tanks arrive and head down the road. One gets destroyed by gun. Gurkhas press destroyed roadblock and gun with overwhelimg fire. IJA counters on the right and left. Right flank IJA platoons goes beserk and gets gunned down crossing the shallow creek. Left flank IJA hides in the jungke holds of light Gurkha attack. IJA runs into the rice paddles and jungle near the roadblock trying to.hold 4 adjacent road hexes. Gurkhas counter into en masse and get into 4 CC. In final.half turn.

Much stabby stabby but IJA wounded leader and half squad roll a 2 and win the last CC for the win. EPIC. RECOMMEND IT
2025-03-01(D) Mark McG vs Alan S Japanese win5 hrsThe scenario is essentially a bug hunt, with the British having 4 victory conditions to fulfill, the most onerous being to clear the road and adjacent top the road of Japanese GO MMC. In our playing, the Japanese managed to have 4 such locations to be cleared at the end of Turn 5, and the Japanese win was clinched with a CC roll of 12 allowing infiltration out. Bit of a dicey end to an otherwise harsh scenario of being hammered by Gurkhas.
2024-12-06(D) Tuomo Lukkari vs Alex Koestler Commonwealth (Gurkha/British) winThis is a great scenario and a real chess match.
2024-09-23(D) Andy Bagley vs Josh Kalman Commonwealth (Gurkha/British) winA combination of poor initial Japanese setup and poor DRs (or good Allied DRs, e.g. snakeyes vs my Banzai) meant I was always losing this one. The Commonwealth troops quickly cleared the southern woods and the roadblock, so it was up to my reinforcements to try to get next to the road. I tried my sneakiest, and it went down to the last turn where I still had a very remote chance, but luck was still not with me so a comfortable Commonwealth win in the end.
2024-08-26(D) John Lehman vs David Rosner Japanese win4 hrsCommonwealth preserved 2 Guns, cleared the roadblock and exited 1 AFV by turn 5 but could not clear all of the Japanese from the road. A real chess match.
